Vitamin B5 or also called Pantothenic acid is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential to sustain life. It is a very essential nutrient so to speak. Pantothenic acid is required to form coenzyme-A (CoA) and it is important to the metabolism and synthesis of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

The name was derived from the Greek pantothen which means "from everywhere" and this vitamin can be found in small quantities in almost every food we eat. It is also used as an active ingredient in some hair and skin care products. Below are the food sources of vitamin B5.

Vitamin B5 deficiency are not trully proven although it is similar to the rest of the B vitamins. Most cases of vitamin B5 deficiency are believed to be related to malnutrition in general such as starvation and hunger but studies suggests that all symptoms can be reversed once the supply of pantothenic acid in the body normalized.

  • Testicular torsion

  • Diabetic ulceration

  • Hypolipidemic effects

  • Diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy
