The pig is a scavenger. It is an omnivorous animal. It eats everything. There are many disease carried from swine to man, particularly parasite infestations. Lately extensive research has been focused on senility-old age is characterized by hardening of inner lining of the blood vessels of the heart, brain etc. a process called atherosclerosis. When a clot forms, it results in coronary thrombosis or a heart attack, cerebral thrombosis or stroke.

Different dietary factors are responsible for atherosclerosis. Gross atheroma may be produced in rabbit by feeding it with cholesterol, but when you add lard (derived from hog fat) to the cholesterol, the incidence of atheroma is increased and thus you would produce coronary thrombosis, and myocardial infraction.

Besides, lard contains 2800 units of vitamin D per 100 grams and no vitamin A at all. Lately vitamin D has been held responsible for atheroma, by causing increased absorption of calcium in the blood vessels. In human beings, serum cholesterol is not dependent on the intake of cholesterol in the diet, but depends upon the proportion of animal fats in the diet, which elevate the beta-lipo protein level in the blood. Animal fats contain saturated fatty acids and these saturated fatty acids have been found to be as one of the causes of atheroma in man. Medium fat bacon contains 25% proteins and 55% fat."

According to medical research, the fat content in pork is more than any other meat (beef, mutton etc.) and it takes longer to digest. An article published in London on January 1997 issue has listed 16 kinds of harmful germs, which have been discovered in pork in modern researches and the diseases, which could be caused by them. The number of patients suffering from tapeworm disease is the highest in the world among pork eating nations. Other diseases attributed to pigs are caused by tri-chinelia spirates and intestinal worms occupy first place among such nations too.

Dr. Glen Shepherd wrote the following on the dangers of eating pork in Washington Post (31 May 1952).

"One in six people in USA and Canada have germs in their muscles - trichinosis 8 from eating pork infected with trichina worms. Many people so infected have no symptoms. Most of those, who do have, recover slowly. Some die; some are reduced to permanent invalids. All were careless pork caters".

He continued "No one is immune from the disease and there is no cure. Neither antibiotics nor drugs or vaccines affect these tiny deadly worms. Preventing infection is the real answer."

After reading the statement of Dr. Shepherd, one can realize that there is no real guarantee of safety when eating pork that one would not be affected by trichina worm. That is why modern doctors advise three prohibitions during illness: no liquor, no pork and no smoking.

David,
You might want to site your sources before sending this bunk out to the world as fact let alone your own. Your first section is taken word for word from a web site that explains why pork is forbidden in Islam. There is no useful information whatsoever as the research that was done was not only biased toward the aforementioned religion, it has little to do with TODAY'S human consumption for pork products.
Secondly, according to MODERN research done by the USDA, an average of 12 cases of Trichinosis occurs of all consumers in the U.S. per year. You are also cherry picking specific processed cuts of pork (i.e. bacon) to tout your archaic and uninformed opinion. Most cuts of pork absolutely DO NOT contain more fat that other cuts of meat and do in fact contain significantly less except in areas of marbling which generally melt away from the meat and are lost in high heat cooking processes.
You are also touting information from a Dr. Glen Shepherd who wrote about the dangers of eating pork in 1952. That in and of itself proves that you know nothing of what you say and can only parrot someone else's long forgotten and disproven "information". Just to add to your less than extensive list of knowledge, lard has all but been eliminated from the American diet, so your argument there means nothing. I would advise you to remove the garbage you have posted above, if you are able. I sincerely hope no one reads it and absorbs it as fact when quite the opposite is true. If you really believe the things you have so obviously plagiarized, I only hope that you find the ability to do your own research instead of blindly following propaganda that has no bearing in the 21st century. In case you care, I am a Chef and a nutritionist with 20 years of experience. What about you?

What anonymous stated or plagiarized in not limited to Islam, its also a Jewish belief and infact was originally a christian belief too. I still didnt see you rebuttal any of the claims though, fact is u r what u eat! Ur cheap shots r just that cheap! check this out;

Facts about pork:

Have you ever ate pork and upon your last bite it came along with a headache? I have, and there's a reason for that. Did you know Pigs will eat anything including worms,rats, garbage, their own feeces and other pigs? Yes, its tue! and shortly after a pig has eaten "whatever", it then turns into meat on the pigs bones and this is the meat we eat; bacon,sausage,ham, salami, pork chops, etc. Sound's yummy huh? Here's more, did you know The Center for Disease Control stated that well over 100 virus come from China to the Unites States each year through pigs! In fact, majority of flu viruses that we encounter come from the lungs of pigs. Also, pigs foster many other toxins that are concealed with diseases and contain worms. Pork is the main source of taenia solium tapeworm. This kind of bacteria spreads throught the body and goes undetected for years! The bacteria takes nutrients from our cells and encourage inflammation and decline within all tissues. This helps to make an enviornment within our bodies, contributory to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, acid reflux, fatigue and depression. If this isn't enough to make you stop eating pork, let me leave you with one last fact: A retrovirus lives in all pork cells and this viruses lives through the heat that we cook in! so we eat our tasty meat ,and guess what goes inside our body? You got it, a retrovirus! Ok, I've poked fun in this article a little, but please understand the seriousness intended of eating pork. Honestly, it causes many problems with our human body and the headaches that are often associated with eating pork is just one, that we should pay attention to as a warning sign of a food/meat not good for you. If a food is good for you, it will give you energy, nutrients and make you feel good; not headaches, fatigue, tapeworms, viruses and just an overall decline of health. So now you have it, the facts about eating pork! I trust you will make the right decision for the sake of you and your family. oink -oink!
