Is Microwave Oven Harmful To Our Health?
Do you often use your microwave oven? Microwave appliances are often used to heat up left over foods from previous meals. But did you ask yourself, is microwave oven safe to use with regards to my health?
Microwave are pretty safe to use as long as you are not over expose to its radiation. Extended contact with microwaves may well cause cancers and other killer diseases. There are serious health hazards which are connected or indirectly related from using microwave oven.
Some of the said health hazards are cataracts, birth defects, nervous system damage, headaches, and can also interfere to people with pacemaker installed inside their bodies.
Microwave ovens are designed not to exceed 1mW/cm2 of radiated power. A leak that exceeds 5mW/cm2 can be dangerous to your health and must be stopped from being use. A good and conditioned microwave will not damage your health nor risk anything in your home including the food you are going to eat.

Now, how about the food we eat? Our food are not the cause of health hazards in using microwave ovens. It is the quality of containers that really matters. Plastic made containers are more prone to the effect of "Migration". It means that the material compounds found in the plastic are more likely to migrate to foods which are very dangerous to our health. To avoid this effect, make sure to use oven friendly containers when heating foods to microwave.
HealthTalkBuzz recommends the following to avoid possible health risk when using microwave.
- Avoid direct contact with the microwave's heat
- Use only microwave-safe utensils
- Glass containers are more safe than plastic containers
