Trans Fats And Its Health Risks
Hydrogenated Fats or simply known as Trans Fats are fat molecules containing one or more double bonds between the carbon atoms. Since the carbons are double-bonded to each other, there are fewer bonds that are linked to the hydrogen making it fewer hydrogen atoms. This is why unsaturated fats is also an alternative term for trans fats.
Trans fats can be monounsaturated and polyunsaturated but never saturated forms of fats. It can be found in many of today processed foods and also present in low levels in natural foods. Artificial trans fats are developed when incorporated in oil which is called hydrogenation process. This makes the oil hard and is commonly known as hydrogenated fat. These oil are used in frying foods and as an ingredient in processed foods.
These artificial trans fats can be found mainly in today's day to day snacks like cakes, ice cream, biscuits, chips and many more. Low levels of trans fats can be found in animal meats and dairy products.
Since trans fats are much more deadlier than saturated fats, American researchers had suggest that foods rich in trans fats should be taken in moderation. There are numerous studies about trans fats and its health effects and it's one of the factors of certain serious diseases.
One of the major health risk that trans fats can give you is the coronary heart disease (CHD). If you take a high fat diet, you are very much prone to this condition compared to people who avoid eating foods high in trans fats.
Trans fats can literally increase your bad cholesterol level (LDL) in the blood which results to higher risks of heart problems and stroke. When the body's LDL rises, good cholesterol (HDL) decreases. This means an even more serious health condition and must be immediately reversed to prevent its effects.
Trans fats are also a contributing factor for cancer especially prostate cancer. A recent study in people with prostate cancer suggests that 8 out of 10 of those patients are meat and processed food lovers.
Another health risks is diabetes type II. Studies show that people who have diabetes are relying heavily on high fat diets. If you can avoid this bad healthy diet, you can guarantee that your risk for diabetes are greatly reduced.
The biggest buzz about trans fats is obesity. Foods that are rich in trans fats can greatly help in adding pounds to your belt line.
