How To Overcome Paranoidism?
In 2004, I have undergone a major surgery of my abdomen to take out a 16cm long tumor between my right kidney and bladder. My condition at that time was very down and I thought that my life will never last. Its a feeling of hopelessness and I was very depressed at that time.
Fortunately, the tumor was benign (non-cancerous) and I was able to move on from that dark moments of my life. Since then, I have changed my lifestyle totally including my eating habits. I regularly take physical exercise and light weight training to stay fit and healthy. My oncologist told me that I am now safe and cured because it was already six years from the time of operation.
I am still getting medication therapy for my fatty liver and my doctor said that it will be my lifetime drug. I know that I am cured but this particular experience made me health paranoid. Even a pimple or a simple cough can give me reasons to think about and be wary that it could be cancer or any serious disease.
Paranoidism is a condition of being paranoid. For my case, its particularly all about health and nothing else. Paranoidism is also called paranoid personality disorder or PPD, which defines as widespread and unwarranted suspicious beliefs that is supported without any concrete scientifical evidence.
For me, it was just a mild case because I can control it and it only occurs when something is wrong with my body. This is mainly because of the health condition I overcome six years ago and I am totally normal prior to that operation. So what is PPD? Let me explain to you the causes and symptoms of this personality disorder.
Experts suggests that paranoidism is a type of mental disorder that mainly focused on suspicions without any basis or facts. A person can be paranoid to anything, be it on people, surroundings or even in finances. Paranoid people are often harmless and take their problems on their own terms or ways.
Due to the misinterpretation of things, paranoid people don't often give trust to other people. This trait makes them hard to achieve close relationship and have a thought that people will just exploit or take advantage of their weaknesses. This is paranoidism in the highest level.
Getting a paranoid lifestyle is not easy to deal with. A close relative must know the symptoms and causes to effectively apply any types of treatment or therapies. PPD can start in childhood or early adulthood depending on what specific events that triggered the condition. Experts also suggests that individuals who have family history of psychotic disorders like schizophrenia have higher risks of developing PPD.
What are its symptoms? In general, PPD only has trust issues to people from its surroundings. Stress, Isolation, insecurity and hostility are often the result of being too paranoid. It is good to note that other psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions are not present in people with PPD.
To help paranoid people, you have to help them to deal with their social problems. Therapies are vital to help support PPD patients. On my part, since its not a severe paranoidism, I see to it that I apply various defense mechanism to avoid too much thinking and stress. If you think you are paranoid into something that you can't explain, it is wise to talk to people close to you in order to help you emotionally and mentally.
