Colds - Just Another Common Disease
This blog is already two years old and I have yet to write a single post regarding common cold. So the wait is over and this article will give you basic information about this very common but not serious disease.
I typically catch cold approximately twice a year. Cold is caused by viruses that infect your upper respiratory system that causes many symptoms. Common symptoms includes runny nose, sneezing, headache, clogged nose, coughing, nasal congestion, fever and many others.
You can be infected anywhere especially in public places. It is best to strengthen your immune system to protect yourself from this type of infection. It can also help you to prevent other diseases as well.
There are various remedies that you can apply to deal with cold. The most usual way is to eat foods that are rich in vitamin C like oranges, kiwi, pineapples and many others. Water therapy can also help fasten your recovery from cold condition.
Zinc lozenges are often marketed to help treat cold. Zinc is an essential mineral that is needed by hundreds of enzymes in our body. In recent studies, taking zinc lozenges has found to reduce the duration of cold symptoms. It works through blocking the replication of the cold virus which prevents it from spreading.
Garlic is also another herbal alternative to cure colds. Pinoy culture recommends the use of garlic to treat different infections which includes common colds. Garlic has virus fighting properties that can help reduce common symptoms such as headache and dizziness.
Ginger is another famous natural remedy for colds and is also used in sore throat, cough and fever. In Ayurvada medicine, ginger plays a great role in treating various viral infections. Other alternative remedies includes the following.
- honey
- elderberry

Cold is not a serious disease and will naturally go away within a few days. If your cold is recurring or lasts longer than expected, consult your doctor immediately. It may be caused by another underlying diseases so your doctor's advice is highly needed.
